Sometimes the things we throw away find a new life as you can see from the musical instruments below that were made from material found on a garbage dump. The orchestra is called the Landfill Harmonic and the difference music has made to the lives of the children that play these instruments is truly inspiring.
I am the Primary Teacher Librarian at the International School of Lausanne in Switzerland. I followed my love of books and became a Teacher Librarian over 12 years ago. I am passionate about reading, literacy and technology and see all three as essential skills for students to navigate both the present and the future. My favourite kinds of books are picture books - I just can't read enough of them! I am also a trained music teacher who plays flute and piano and believes music is the fourth essential skill in helping prepare today's young people for the future.
