Year 4 Library Activities
Writing a poem or a story takes time, determination and creativity. They can be funny, sad, adventurous, mysterious but they all begin with the writer's imagination. Throughout the year we will be highlighting some of ISL's wonderful imaginative poets and writers on our Student Stories page.

The Falling Words by Joaquin 4G
Once upon a time there was a girl, a blonde girl that had a red jacket, red hat, red pants and even red shoes. Her name was Lucy. She lived in a cabin in the middle of the woods. Lucy had borrowed a book that she was very eager to read. As she was running home to read it, the words started falling out off the pages! She didn't realize what was happening and just kept running. Luckily, a fox standing on wheels behind her had a net. He tried to catch every word and he did. When Lucy got home and started reading, she realized that the book didn't have any words. Then came a whisper. “You imagine the stories. Start with a few words and then make up the rest yourself”. It took a bit of time but she got the hang of it. She invented stories with dragons and elephants and circus tigers. She loved reading that book and never wanted to stop. Next day on her way to school she met a fox. She asked the fox why he had a bag. “Why do you have that bag?” “Well young lady ” said the Fox,” this bag holds all the words you lost from your book”. “Really?” asked Lucy. “Yes” answered the Fox. Lucy took the words and read the book again at school. The stories were amazing! |
The Sunny Day by Mete 4G
Once there was a little girl who was running to get home as fast as she could. It was a very hot day and the sun was shining brightly in the sky. She was so excited to read the book her teacher had given her. The girl didn’t notice the fox standing behind a tree as she ran. The fox saw that there were letters were falling out of the book the little girl held under her arm. Being the good fox that he was he tried to catch the words with his net. When the girl came to her home she was surprised to see that there were no words in the book! She had not realized that the letters had fallen out. Could she still ‘read’ the story? Did she need the words to help her or could she just use her imagination. . . |
The Owl Whose Wings Made Music by Lieve 4H
Once upon a time there was an Owl whose wings made beautiful music as he flew through the night sky. The people in the village loved the music and thought it was a magical musical instrument. One day a boy called Philo wanted to find out what was making the music so that night at 9:00 pm, he got out of bed and solved the mystery! He discovered it was an owl - a beautiful owl. Owl told Philo that he was sad because nobody came to watch and listen to him. Owl was so happy that Philo had come that he said, “Would you like a ride?” Philo of course said “Yes!” and climbed on Owl’s back. They flew over the houses together and as they soared the beautiful music flowed from Owl’s wings. The people of the village looked up and saw Philo and the Owl flying through the night sky making the beautiful music. They were very surprised to see them and were delighted as they swooped and soared over the rooftops. |
Book of the Wise Fox by Delphine 4H
Once upon a time there was an imagination book in the middle of a very colorful forest. The book belonged to a wise fox that lived in the colorful forest. At the other side of the forest was a little village whose people were very clever. The smartest girl in the village was 5 years old and her name was Alice. She only had a dad because her mom died when she was born but she moved on without thinking about it. Although Alice was only five she was in sixth grade because she was very, very smart.
One day she was reading a book about books that had been written by the wise old fox. In it was a page about a special book called the Book of Imagination that she really wanted to read. So she said to her teacher, “I don’t feel well. Can I please go home?” The teacher said that she could but Alice did not go home and instead went to the colorful forest. There she met a fox but she did not know that it was actually the wise old fox who had written the book! He told her who he was and said she was welcome to take the Book of Imagination to her house. But as she ran home the letters fell out of the book! The fox saw what was happening and followed her, catching the floating letters in his net. He then sat down and started to make another book with the same letters.
While the fox was preparing a new Imagination Book, Alice was sitting on her bed trying to understand what had happened to the all the words! When the fox looked in his magic and saw how confused Alice was, he went to her house, sneaked into her room and whispered “Please don't be mad. Come tomorrow to the colorful forest where you got the book and you will know why you don't have words for all your stories”. The next day she went with the book to the colorful forest and saw the wise old fox waiting for her. On a table were a table were two teacups and a whole bunch of letters and words. The wise fox spoke. “You, little Alice, didn’t use your imagination. To understand the stories all you need to do is imagine them”. After a long talk Alice thanked the wise old fox and went away and looked again at the images in the book. Now she knew how to create her own stories so she sat down and began. . .
